The tablets, which are produced and sold by Amazon.com, will be distributed between Franklin D. Roosevelt and Neil A. Armstrong middle schools, district spokesperson Eileen Kelliher said.
The Kindle Fire is similar to the Apple iPad and runs on Google’s Android operating system. According to industry estimates, the Kindle Fire is the second most selling tablet computer next to the iPad.
Schools across the region have begun to slowly faze in use of handheld tablets to supplement books and laptop computers.
