Blood Drive & Baked Goods Sale in Honor of 20-Year-Old Cancer Patient


Hundreds came out Wednesday to Bristol High School to donate blood and eat yummy baked goods in the name of Jean Shapcott.

Shapcott, a 20-year-old Bristol Borough native ย and a 2011 graduate of Bristol High School, is suffering from a rare form of liver cancer calledย hasfibrolmellularย hepatocellularย carcinoma.

Recently, green ribbons have been tied around trees throughout the borough as a way of showing community support for Shapcott in her fight against this rare form of cancer.ย Green is the designated color for liver cancer.

Ed Mika, Red Cross team supervisor for the drive, said, ” We’ve surpassed our goal by %200 already. The support by the community has been amazing, ” he exclaimed.

Coinciding with the blood ย drive, ย a baked goods sale with ย a myriad of delicious offerings, also took place.

Terry Zuschnitt, proudly wearing her “Green for Jean” ย T-Shirt explained the funds raised from the bake sale would go to “anything Jean needs to help her.”

According to Zuschnitt, well over $500 was raised by the sale.

Shapcott’s auntsย  Ann Walp and Philomena Quattrocchi, who own Great ID’s by Ann in Bristol Borough, are selling the “Green for Jean” T-shirts for $10.

“Team Jean” wristbands can also be purchased at that location for $3.

Walp, said her of herย niece, she’sย keepingย her spirits up and the news so ย far from Doctor has been positive.

Shapcott is being treated at Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center in New York, as she is part of a clinical trials program there.
