The crash happened on Wednesday, Aug. 5, at approximately 9:55 p.m. in the 300 block of Main Street.

An unidentified vehicle was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed when it veered off the right side of the roadway onto the shoulder. The vehicle’s passenger side struck the driver’s side of an unoccupied 2012 Nissan Sentra that was legally parked along the right shoulder, state police said in a statement this week.

After impact, the striking vehicle continued heading eastbound and fled the scene.

The crash caused functional damage to both vehicles, state police said.

The parked Nissan remained at its final resting point facing eastbound, displaying fresh black paint transfer along its driver’s side.

A witness described the fleeing vehicle as a dark-colored SUV driven by an person with short black hair. The vehicle’s registration plate was unknown, police said.

Troopers conducted a canvass of the crash site and surrounding area, but the work yielded negative results in locating the vehicle or gathering further details.

State police closed the case due to a lack of solvability factors.
