A New Jersey man has been charged after pointing a gun at a police officer following reports of shots fired Tuesday night.
Bristol Borough police were called at 10:22 p.m. to the alleyway near Race and Spruce streets after multiple callers reported two men in black clothing and ski masks fleeing toward Buckley Street, authorities said.

Responding officers spotted two men matching the description from witnesses, police said.
The two suspects fled on foot, with one holding his waistband area, police said.
An officer spotted one of the men cross Buckley Street and enter a clearing in the street’s 200 block, police said.

Searching the area with guns drawn, officers located and ordered one suspect to show his hands, police said.
The suspect was detained without further incident and placed into a patrol vehicle.

Police said the man in custody had pointed a firearm at an officer prior to his arrest. Spent shell casings were discovered near the scene.
The suspect claimed he was not carrying a firearm and said he did not know if anyone had been shot, police said.
With help from officers from Bristol Township and Middletown Township, borough police searched the surrounding area for a weapon.

A Bristol Borough officer recovered a Glock .40-caliber handgun equipped with a 22-round magazine near the location where the suspect was taken into custody, police said.
Investigators identified the suspect as Shazir Robert Burrell, 23, of Edgewater Park, New Jersey.
Burrell was preliminarily arraigned before Senior District Judge Joanne Kline on charges of aggravated assault, possession of an instrument of crime with intent, simple assault, hindering apprehension, evading arrest or detention on foot, and tamper with evidence. He was ordered to the county jail on 10 percent of $50,000.

The second suspect remained at large Wednesday morning.
Police Chief Joe Moors said no injuries were reported. He added that the shooting remains under investigation and that authorities have not yet determined what or who was being targeted.

An emergency medical services source said there were no shooting-related ambulance calls on Buckley Street Tuesday night.
A nearby resident reported hearing several gunshots ring out before police cruisers arrived.
A Buckley Street resident said she heard no shots fired because she was in bed, but she witnessed officers moving down the street and searching the area using flashlights.

According to a bystander, Bristol Borough officers were aided by officers from Bristol Township and Middletown Township, including a K-9 unit.
