A U.S. Marine from Levittown is inviting the community to turn his annual Independence Day tradition into a celebration of the country this Saturday morning.
Bobby Braun, a local resident who has spent the last six or seven years running solo from his house to Five Points and back while carrying an American flag, decided about a month ago to open his holiday routine to the public.

Braun said he figured the timing was perfect to share the tradition for the country’s 250th birthday.
The unsanctioned 2.5-mile run, which is dubbed “Operation: Freedom Thunder,” will take place on Saturday, July 4.
“I’m trying to bring people together and celebrate the country for what it is,” Braun said.
So far, approximately 20 people have committed to joining the run, with several dozen more expressing interest.

During his solo runs in previous years, Braun said he has received nothing but honks, cheers, and people recording videos of support.
Participants will gather at 8:30 a.m. across from the historic Bolton Mansion, with the run officially starting at 9 a.m.

The route will head down New Falls Road, travel through Red Cedar and Oak Tree Drive, and return to the starting point.
The event is completely unsanctioned, and Braun is requiring participants to sign a waiver to protect everyone involved. More information on the Facebook event page.
There will be no official timing chips, awards, medals, or trophies.

Braun said that people of all ability levels are welcome, including runners, walkers, veterans, parents with strollers, and children under 15, provided they are accompanied by a running adult.
Braun is advising that participants wear American flag attire and carry American flags at all times. Highly encouraged gear includes jorts, cowboy hats, Pit Vipers, cutoff sleeves, and Bluetooth speakers playing Toby Keith’s “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue.”

Despite the over-the-top theme, Braun is advising it is a nonpartisan event. Only American flags are allowed, and political flags, apparel, or campaign merchandise will not be permitted.
“There are people making it political when it’s not,” Braun said. “It’s not meant to be a political event. This is about America.”
