A Tuesday water main break has led to a boil water advisory for a small portion of the area, officials said.

The Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority issued the warning after a loss of positive water pressure caused by the break, which happened on Station Avenue in Langhorne Borough.

According to the Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority, the drop in pressure created conditions that could permit contamination to enter the distribution system via back-flow or back-siphonage.

Officials warned that the water may contain disease-causing microbes, including bacteria, viruses, and parasites. The organisms can trigger symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and headaches.

Residents in the affected area, which is Station Avenue between West Richardson Avenue and West Gillam Avenue in Langhorne and Langhorne Manor boroughs, are urged not to consume the water without boiling it first.

The authority told customers to use bottled water or bring tap water to a rolling boil for one minute. They should allow the water to cool before use.

Boiled or bottled water can be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice.

Customers living outside of the impaction section of Station Avenue are not under the boil water advisory, but officials noted they may experience discolored water.

After repairs are completed, the Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority will conduct laboratory testing to verify the water is free of bacteria. Testing is expected to take two to three days.

The authority said it will notify the public when the advisory is officially lifted.

Borough officials stated they will also share the all-clear notice on their municipal website, social media channels, and through the Savvy Citizen and Constant Contact alert systems.
