Two-Vehicle Crash With Fire On Burlington-Bristol Bridge

A two-vehicle crash and fire shut down the Burlington-Bristol Bridge for roughly three hours Tuesday morning.

Firefighters, ambulances, and the Burlington County Bridge Commission Police Department were called to the bridge spanning the Delaware River at 7:51 a.m. for a reported vehicle fire.

Firefighters arrived to find a crash involving a Kia Forte and a van just past the midspan on the Bristol Township side of the bridge, said Croydon Fire Company Chief Tom Tryon.

Both vehicles were on fire, and crews worked to extinguish the flames.

No life-threatening injuries were reported in the wreck.

The crash forced officials to close the bridge to all traffic until approximately 11 a.m., police said.

The Burlington County Bridge Commission Police Department is leading the investigation into the cause of the crash.

Bristol Township Fire Rescue, the City of Burlington Fire Department, and the Newportville Fire Company assisted the Croydon Fire Company at the scene.

The incident happened during a busy morning for emergency crews on local roadways. As crews were dealing with the crash and fire on the bridge, a tanker truck caught fire on I-95 and an intense truck fire closed a portion of Route 1.
