

Pennsylvania State Police are ramping up patrols for the Memorial Day holiday weekend as one of the year’s busiest travel seasons begins.

Troop M, which patrols Bucks County, launched a targeted traffic enforcement program Friday morning. The crackdown is scheduled to run through 11:59 p.m. on Memorial Day.
Troopers will target drivers who violate Pennsylvania’s prohibitions against texting while driving, using handheld phones, careless driving, and reckless driving, state police said.
State police announced plans to deploy DUI and drug recognition experts across the roadways and highways to identify and arrest impaired drivers.

The holiday weekend historically sees high volumes of traffic violations and accidents.
According to state police, the 2025 Memorial Day enforcement period involved 756 crashes statewide. The patrols resulted in 519 DUI arrests, 7,033 speeding citations, and 18,963 other traffic citations.

Troopers issued a warning regarding motorists who attempt to evade law enforcement by not stopping.
State police noted that fleeing from troopers is a third-degree felony in Pennsylvania, carrying a maximum penalty of seven years in prison and a fine of up to $15,000.
