Firefighters Battle Heavy Flames, Thick Smoke In Bristol

An intense fire damaged several connected residences in Bristol Borough on Friday morning.

The blaze was reported around 9:50 a.m. in a set of connected homes in the 300 block of Garfield Street, across from Bristol Borough High School.

Due to heavy fire conditions, responding crews quickly struck a second alarm to bring in additional firefighters.

A witness at the scene described seeing “pitch black” smoke pouring from the multi-family row of buildings.

Bill Roarty, a nearby resident, said he heard sirens and walked over to see what was happening. He reported seeing heavy flames and thick smoke billowing from both the roof and the back of the structure.

The conditions drew firefighters from throughout Lower Bucks County and neighboring Burlington County, New Jersey.

Bristol Borough fire officials placed the fire under control just before 11 a.m.

Firefighters remained on the scene as of 11:30 a.m. putting out hotspots.
