A Philadelphia man died early Tuesday morning after a chain-reaction crash on Route 1.

Bensalem Township police, volunteer firefighters, and EMS personnel responded to the southbound lanes of Route 1 at Rockhill Drive at approximately 5:30 a.m. for reports of a multi-vehicle crash.
Police said they determined that a 2007 Honda Fit had been experiencing mechanical issues before coming to a stop in the second southbound lane of the highway.
The driver was identified as 45-year-old Julio Ricardo Munoz.
Police said Munoz had exited the car and was standing outside the vehicle when the initial crash occurred.

A 2022 Kia Seltos struck the stationary Honda and caused the Honda to hit Munoz, police said.
Moments later, the Honda was struck a second time by an approaching 2017 Jeep Cherokee, police said.

Munoz sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A front-seat passenger in the Honda was transported to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital in Philadelphia to be treated for injuries described as non-life-threatening.
The crash caused traffic to back up into Langhorne on Route 1 during Tuesday’s commute.
Bensalem Township police said the crash remains under investigation, but neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be factors in the incident at this time.
