Winter Storm Warning Issued Ahead Of Major Storm

A powerful nor’easter is expected to cover Bucks County under a foot or more of snow.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning as residents brace for “impossible” travel conditions and heavy snowfall.

The storm is projected to deliver between 12 and 18 inches of snow to Bucks County, with the most intense part of the storm kicking in Sunday night and lasting through Monday morning.

Precipitation is expected to begin Sunday morning in the region, and meteorologists said the onset may initially take the form of rain for areas near I-95, with a rapid transition to heavy snow is forecast.

The heaviest snowfall rates, which could exceed 2 inches per hour, are expected across New Jersey, northern Delaware, and southeast Pennsylvania.

The snow is expected to taper off by Monday afternoon.

The National Weather Service is warning that the combination of heavy snow and gusty winds will result in blowing, drifting, and reduced visibility.

The travel effects from the storm are expected for the Monday morning commute, with potential lingering issues for the Monday evening return.

Forecasters are are characterizing the storm as a “moderate to major” impact event.

Amid the storm, northeast winds will intensify Sunday and peak Sunday night into Monday morning. Gusts in the are could be as high as 40 mph.

Forecasters said the gusty conditions may lead to localized tree damage and power outages across the area.

Closer to the New Jersey shore, blizzard conditions are possible.
