Students at Neshaminy High School gathered Thursday afternoon to protest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions during recent high-profile incidents.

While organizers originally planned a 12:30 p.m. walkout, administrators directed the demonstration to remain inside the high school auditorium.

“The decision was made by the administration to keep the students inside out of an abundance of caution due to a number of unsubstantiated threats and rumors related to this activity appearing on social media,” said Chris Stanley, the spokesperson for the Neshaminy School District.
Middletown Township Police Chief Joseph Bartorilla said an online comment regarding the protest was investigated as a possible shooting threat but was determined to be unfounded.

Amid the safety concerns, district security and township police maintained a presence at the school throughout the event.
Inside the auditorium, students displayed signs and spoke out against ICE enforcement tactics.

Federal immigration operations operations under President Donald Trump’s administration have faced increasing scrutiny following recent arrests of citizens and shootings.
Student leaders advised their peers to avoid profanity and violence during the 20-minute rally before returning to their scheduled classes, according to students and parents.
According to Stanley, students who participated were “marked tardy for that class period and will be expected to make up any missed work before or after school in upcoming days.”

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) provides general guidance stating that while students retain First Amendment rights within the school environment, districts are permitted to discipline them for missing instructional time.
The Neshaminy demonstration joins a wave of similar protests across the region and the country. Activists and students have increasingly challenged ICE’s methods amid a broader federal crackdown on people living in the country illegally.
