Three schools in Morrisville Borough were placed on lockdown Friday afternoon after police received a report of a possible planned shooting at the local high school.

The Morrisville Borough Police Department was notified of a threat against Morrisville High School at approximately 2:53 p.m.
According to a statement from police Cpl. Lew Halas, the report indicated a possible shooting was going to occur at the high school in the borough.
Officers arriving at the scene found a large crowd of students and parents gathered for afternoon dismissal.

Given the timing and the nature of the report, officials said they moved to secure the area as quick as possible.

“It was at this time, with limited information and the height of this potential threat, it was decided to place the Morrisville High School, Grandview Elementary School, and Holy Trinity School on lockdown until police could confirm the credibility and seriousness of these reported threats,” Halas said in a statement.

During the lockdown, investigators conducted interviews and coordinated with surrounding police departments.
Police said they eventually determined there was no active threat to the students, staff, or the schools involved.
The Morrisville Borough Police Department is continuing to investigate the threat.

Halas credited the schools for their “fast response” and thanked parents for their cooperation during the incident.
Mayor Gary Wallace and Chief of Police Rich Ciampa thanked law enforcement and school staff for the response.

“These types of threats will continue to be handled with caution to ensure the safety of our students, school staff, and parents,” Halas said.
