Officer Michael Levitsky was dispatched to the 600 block of Pond Street Thursday just before 7 p.m. for a domestic call at a home, Chief of Police Joe Moors told LevittownNow.com.

As Levitsky got to the top of the stoop and knocked on the door, a large rottweiler ran toward the door, crashed through the screen, and “launched the officer about 8 feet back,” Moors said.

Levitsky was attacked by the dog and suffered injuries from the fall, the chief said.

The officer was taken by ambulance to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in Philadelphia. He remained there Friday with non-life-threatening injuries, Moors said.

The incident remains under investigation as of Friday.

Due to the attack, the dog will have to be quarantined for 10 days.
