The Pennsbury School District is planning to unveil the final design, timeline and construction plans for its planned new high school campus.

The Thursday, Dec. 4, public presentation will immediately follow the Pennsbury School Board’s 7 p.m. reorganization meeting at Fallsington Elementary School, and it will also be livestreamed.

“The board will have a reorg meeting and then we’ll switch right to a high school update for the community,” Superintendent Dr. Thomas Smith said.

The planned $269 million facility is planned to consolidate the district’s current two-building high school campus into a single new building, according to Smith.

The district’s architect will provide details about the project during the meeting, he said.

The new high school is proposed to be a 497,000-square-foot building to be constructed on the south side of the existing campus along Hood Boulevard in Falls Township.

According to plans, the current East and West campus high school buildings will remain in use until the new school is complete. The existing buildings will then be torn down.

The school district is seeking qualified contractors for the large construction project planned, Smith said. Information regarding contractor qualifications is available on the district’s website.

District documents said officials considered several options for the campus, including renovating the existing buildings or adding an addition to the West building while demolishing the East building. The officials concluded that building a new high school was the “most cost-effective solution.”

Officials have previously stated that the project will be financed through a series of bonds issued between 2024 and 2029. The project is expected to result in an estimated 14.6 mill increase in taxes in the coming years.

While some residents have expressed support for the project at public meetings, others have voiced concerns about the need for the new school and its costs.
