A Trenton man faces murder and other charges after police alleged he fatally shot his girlfriend and wounded her friend early Sunday morning before stealing the vehicle they were in.
Lamont Truitt, 36, was arrested Sunday after turning himself in to the Trenton Police Department. He is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, first-degree carjacking, and other weapon and firearm possession offenses, according to Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey and Trenton Police Department Director Steve Wilson.

The incident began just before 6 a.m. Sunday when police in Trenton began receiving calls regarding multiple gunshots on Oakland Street and a woman shot in the leg.

Authorities said Alyssia Murphy, 32, was in a silver Toyota Camry parked on Coolidge Avenue with a 25-year-old friend when Truitt approached the car.
Authorities stated that Truitt began arguing with Murphy before pulling out a handgun and firing multiple shots.

Murphy’s friend was able to escape the vehicle after the shooting, authorities said.
Authorities said Truitt then got into the Camry and drove away.

About two hours later, officers with the Lower Makefield Township Police Department found the stolen Camry near East Ferry Road and Delaware Canal State Park, authorities said.

Murphy was found dead inside the vehicle, authorities said.
According to police, Truitt and Murphy were in a relationship.
Trenton officers later found the 25-year-old woman in the 200 block of Coolidge Avenue suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

The wounded woman was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center.
After Truitt’s arrest, prosecutors filed a motion to keep the 36-year-old man in custody pending trial.

The Mercer County Homicide Task Force is leading the ongoing investigation.
In addition to the Lower Makefield Township Police Department and New Jersey authorities, the Bucks County Detectives assisted.

A discovery of a deceased person in a parked vehicle Sunday has prompted a joint investigation stretching across state lines.
The Lower Makefield Township Police Department responded to a report in the area of East Ferry Road and Delaware Canal State Park on Sunday.
Arriving officers located a vehicle with a deceased person inside.

The body was tied to an ongoing investigation that began in Trenton, according to Lower Makefield Township police.

As a result, the Lower Makefield Township Police Department and the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office are working with the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office and the Trenton Police Department as the probe goes on.

Police said there is “no ongoing concern for community safety” stemming from the incident.
Investigating are asking the public to come forward with any information.

A few miles down the Delaware Canal is Falls Township, a dead body was discovered Saturday. However, there was no information that the two incidents were connected as of Sunday night.
