Middletown Township police have concluded their investigation into a suspicious vehicle and a possible attempted child luring.

The case centered on the Cobalt Ridge neighborhood in Middletown Township’s Levittown section and was first reported late last month.
Detective Lt. Steve Forman said Friday that the driver of the vehicle had been located and interviewed.
Investigators determined the situation was a misunderstanding, which was exacerbated by a heavy accent, Forman said.

Police will file no charges after determining there was no attempt at luring the teen.
Investigators interviewed the child and parent, neighbors, and drivers of vehicles that were in the area, police said.

The initial report spread rapidly on social media in the wake of the incident.
The report prompted officers to step up patrols in the area.
Police reminded residents about the impact of social media, stating that posts “can spread information quickly before facts are confirmed.”

Police said kids should never get into a vehicle with someone they don’t know, walk away and seek help from a trusted adult if approached, and calling 9-1-1 immediately to report suspicious behavior.
