Middletown Police Increase Patrols After Reported Luring Incident

Middletown Township police are investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle and a possible attempted child luring that happened Monday morning.

The incident reportedly happened in the Cobalt Ridge neighborhood and reports spread to social media groups Monday.

Police said officers responded and launched a “full investigation.”

Police said investigators have since spoken with the child and parent involved, located the vehicle in question, and identified and interviewed the driver.

The driver was “confirmed to be a food delivery driver who frequently works in the area,” according to the department.

Police are continuing to “conduct interviews, review available video, and investigate the incident.”

“Out of an abundance of caution, we will maintain an increased police presence in the neighborhood during bus stop hours in the immediate future to help ensure the safety and peace of mind of our students and families,” the statement read.

The Middletown Township Police Department stressed that it takes “every report of suspicious behavior involving children extremely seriously.”

While the investigation continues, police encouraged parents to review safety reminders with their children, including to never getting into a vehicle with someone they donโ€™t know, walking away and seeking help from a trusted adult if approached, and calling 9-1-1 immediately to report suspicious behavior.

Police, in a statement, reminded residents about the use of social media, noting that it “can spread information quickly before facts are confirmed.”

The department asked residents who witness or hear of suspicious activity to contact police directly so officers can respond quickly.
