Bristol Borough sewer customers will face rate increases and a shift to a monthly billing cycle beginning next year.

In addition, customers will transition from a quarterly to a monthly billing cycle.
Starting Jan. 1, 2026, a typical household of four, which uses about 4,000 gallons per month, could see a $20 monthly increase. Single residents who typically use about 1,000 gallons per month will realize a smaller increase, according to the Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority (BCWSA).
The authority has notified customers with detailed information on the new rates, billing schedules and customer support resources.

The adjustments were approved as part of the 2022 sale agreement where the authority acquired the borough’s sewer system for $50 million.

Officials at the authority said the changes are intended to support ongoing infrastructure improvements, system reliability and sustainability of sewer services in Bristol Borough.
Since the 2022 acquisition, the BCWSA said they have invested more than $2.2 million in repairs and maintenance of the system. The work included upgrades to pipes and wires, new automated monitoring systems at the treatment facility, new servers and security software, and cameras for detecting cracks and leaks.
The authority also paid an additional $1 million to Bristol Borough, on top of the sale price, to make necessary repairs to the bridge used to access the plant.

Authority officials said that without the acquisition, the upgrades would have been the borough’s financial responsibility.
“We understand that any rate change impacts our customers, and we remain committed to transparency and responsible stewardship of the sewer system,” said BCWSA CEO Benjamin Jones. “These adjustments are part of BCWSA’s broader plan to ensure continued investment in the system and to maintain high-quality service for residents and businesses in Bristol Borough.”

The Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority was chartered by the county in the 1960s. It services many municipalities in Bucks County and a handful in Montgomery and Chester counties, providing service to more than 100,000 households. The authority is a public entity and not a private company or a publicly traded company like Aqua America, which provides water service to the borough.
