A tumultuous relationship ended in violence at a busy park on a beautiful spring day in May 2023, and now the shooter will spend years behind bars.

Sammar Khan, 42, of Levittown, was sentenced to 10 to 30 years in state prison by Bucks County Court of Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Finley on Tuesday.
Khan had pleaded guilty in July to charges of third-degree murder, possession of an instrument of crime, and reckless endangerment in the death of her husband, 38-year-old Faisal Iqbal.

The shooting happened on the morning of Tuesday, May 30, 2023, near the banks of the Delaware River at Bristol Borough Waterfront Park.

Testimony indicated that Khan was a victim of domestic abuse by Iqbal.
The relationship between the couple, who had a pre-K-aged son who was nearby during the shooting, had been described as rocky.

Iqbal had filed for divorce in April 2023, and Iqbal was arrested in April 2022 for violating a court order and served 60 days in county jail, according to court records.
At the sentencing, Chief Deputy District Attorney Kristin McElroy addressed the court and said the prosecution did not contest the existence of domestic violence in the relationship. However, she argued the alleged abuse did not justify Khan’s actions on that spring morning.
Khan, a mother of four who worked part-time at Dunkin’, told detectives she met Iqbal at the park to discuss their relationship, and the meeting “did not go well.”

All four of the couple’s children were later placed in the custody of Bucks County Children and Youth. Their young son at the park was unharmed.
Witnesses told police Khan and Iqbal were seen talking along the beach when Khan began speaking loudly in another language.

A “pop” sound was then heard by witnesses, and Iqbal reportedly brushed his hand on his body before wrestling with Khan.
Authorities said additional shots were heard during the struggle.

Police said Khan fired two more shots at Iqbal, causing him to collapse onto the ground.
As he lay on the ground, Khan allegedly raised a 9mm handgun and fired twice at his stomach before firing once into his head.
