Two members of Bristol Borough Council are talking about mounting parking challenges in the municipality.

Councilman Louis Quattrocchi noted the persistent nature of the parking issues during last Monday’s council meeting, calling it “an age-old problem in town” that requires fresh attention.
“There’s just not enough curb space in town to have everybody park conveniently,” Quattrocchi said. “But we’re going to start working on this again to try to clean up some issues.”
The borough faces challenges with residents parking trailers, boats, and other large items on streets, as well as drivers who park poorly by taking up multiple spaces.

“I think again, we have to look at lining these, lining some of these streets so people know where they can park their cars,” Quattrocchi said. “When you have driveways or fire hydrants, it’s tough to do. But we’re going to, and this is going to be a new focus for in the fall.”
The West Ward faces additional pressure as sports seasons begin and in-town and out-of-town parents park by the fields.

Councilman Bryan Johnson asked residents to be patient and respectful during the busy season.
“We’re coming into a season to be very busy, very busy in West Ward with sports starting up again,” Johnson said. “What I’m going to ask respectfully of the residents is to be patient, to understand that we have visitors coming in from other areas and they’re looking for parking spaces.”
Johnson pointed to the need for visitors to be considerate of local residents when seeking parking spaces.

“Be respectful of the homeowners and their parking spaces,” he said. “If there’s another area you can park, we very much respectfully ask that you would utilize those areas instead of parking in front of the residents’ houses.”
The parking challenges are part of growth in Bristol Borough.

“It’s very exciting to have people coming in and enjoying,” Johnson said. “But in terms of parking, just being respectful and being cognizant again of where you’re parking.”
At the meeting, the borough hired a new parking enforcement official at 15 per hour.

The council authorized preparation of an ordinance to establish 15-minute parking from 7 a.m. to noon at 257 Radcliffe Street.
In other business, the council approved a $10,000 proposal to install recommended signage on Beaver, Pond, and Radcliffe streets based on a state-approved truck study after the area has battled traffic from trucks that are too large for the small streets.

Mayor Ralph DiGuiseppe III said that Bruce Jones, a former Bristol Borough resident who assisted after the 1995 fire at the Grundy Rink, recently passed away and was recognized.
