Ed Margavich, who had more than 60 years of service, died Friday, according to the Third District Fire Company.
The company said Margavich died from injuries sustained “during the performance of his duties,” but did not release further details on what happened to him.
Margavich was on the scene last Friday directing traffic as firefighters battled an arson blaze at a home on Cedar Avenue in Croydon.

“He was known for his kindness, wisdom, and the infectious laughter that brightened our meetings,” the fire company wrote in an online post. “His spirit will be missed by all.”
The fire company has set up a memorial for Margavich outside its station on Harrison Street. The public is invited to visit the memorial.
