The Falls Township Board of Supervisors approved Hughes’ hiring following a recommendation from Chief of Police Nelson Whitney.
Hughes, a graduate of Oregon State University, was drafted by the San Diego Chargers as the 149th pick in the 2009 NFL draft. He played five seasons in the NFL for the San Diego Chargers, New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, and spent three years with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Whitney highlighted Hughes’ background, noting his experience as a business owner — he operates Fuel House gym in Middletown Township — combined with his athletic career.

Hughes has also volunteered with the Falls Township Police Department’s Youth Police Academy where he coached and mentored cadets in physical fitness.
