UPDATE: Man Expected To Survive Mall Shooting, Chief Says


UPDATE: 6:38 a.m., Tuesday:

Middletown Township police released security footage of the suspect late Monday night from the shooting outside of the Oxford Valley Mall and continued to ask for tips.

Police confirmed the suspect is a male and that the person who was shot late last Thursday afternoon was a 25-year-old man from Trenton.

The injured man was released from the hospital and is recovering at home, police said.

The suspect, according to police, is believed to be an under 30-year-old Black man, who is tall and think, with dreadlocks, and a unique walking/running gait.

Police in Middletown Township are continuing their investigation into a shooting that happened last Thursday outside the Oxford Valley Mall.

The man who was shot is expected to survive, Middletown Township Chief of Police Joseph Bartorilla said on Monday.

Detectives are actively seeking a suspect in the shooting, which prompted a large response from multiple law enforcement agencies just before 5 p.m. last Thursday.

The suspect is described by police as a tall Black male or female with dreadlocks, last seen wearing a black shirt and green pants.

The wounded man was transported to St. Mary Medical Center as a trauma patient following the shooting.

Shortly after the shooting, a reporter witnessed heavy police activity outside the JC Penney store and the One Oxford Valley office building.

Bartorilla said the victim and suspect were known to each other, and the incident may be domestic in nature.

The chief stated that the incident was not an active shooter situation and there was no threat to those inside the mall, as the shooting occurred outside and the suspect did not enter the building.

After shots rang out, mall shoppers and store employees were held in lockdown inside the building as officers worked to secure the area. Visitors to the nearby Sesame Place amusement park were also briefly held in place.
