Storms Cut Power To Thousands In Levittown Area

A line of strong thunderstorms swept through the Levittown area Thursday evening and caused widespread power outages and localized damage.

The storms, which hit around 5:40 p.m., brought strong wind gusts and heavy rain on a muggy evening.

In the initial minutes after the storm’s arrival, PECO reported more than 15,000 customers in the Levittown area were without power. That number began to drop quickly as crews assessed the damage.

Reports of downed tree limbs and street flooding came in as the heavy rain poured down.

The storm was reported to have caused damage and power outages throughout the broader Philadelphia region as it moved through.

Forecasters warned of additional chances for thunderstorms Thursday night.

Thursday Night: Showers and thunderstorms before 11pm, then a slight chance of showers between 11pm and midnight. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 65. Southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 84. West wind around 15 mph.
Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 68. West wind around 5 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 90. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon.
Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 72. Southwest wind around 5 mph.
