Residents of Bristol Borough will soon begin receiving new recycling carts from J.P. Mascaro and Sons as part of an optional program, Borough Council President Ralph DiGuiseppe confirmed this week.

DiGuiseppe addressed the program at the Bristol Borough Council meeting and sought to clarify details after what he described as confusion among some residents.
“There was a pamphlet sent to everybody. It says, ‘We’re on a roll.’ It’s from Mascaro trash company. Everybody got one in the mail,” DiGuiseppe explained. “The pamphlet tries to explain that you don’t need to take this. It’s up to you if you want it or you don’t want it.”
Deliveries of the new carts are scheduled to begin June 23, with assembly taking place within the borough.

Residents who do not wish to receive a carts must contact J.P. Mascaro and Sons directly to opt out by contacting 267-933-6199 or optout@jpmascaro.com.
“If you do not want a can, you opt out,” DiGuiseppe said. “And if you get a can by mistake and you don’t want it, they’ll come and pick it up.”

DiGuiseppe also dispelled misinformation regarding the collection process with the new carts, specifically refuting claims of automated collection.
“They’re saying that we’re using an automated arm to pick up the cans. Not true,” he stated. “They’re being emptied just like any other recycle in the back of the truck. We live in a town that you can’t use automated arms to pick trash up.”
The new carts come with a warranty, and J.P. Mascaro and Sons will replace them if they break due to normal wear and tear.

“If the can breaks, if the lid snaps off, if the wheels break, they will give you a new can,” DiGuiseppe assured residents.
For commercial properties and apartment buildings, DiGuiseppe confirmed that the number of carts provided will correspond to the number of waste bills paid.

Information about the program is available on the borough’s website, and additional pamphlets are available at the borough office for residents who may have thrown out the original mailing.
The borough is in the second year of its five-year, $18 million contract.
