Construction Workers Go Extra Mile For Levittown Boy In Wheelchair

When Kayla Chrostowski learned a contractor would be digging up her street for water line work, her immediate concern was how her 6-year-old son, Ryan, who uses a wheelchair would navigate to and from his school bus.

What she discovered once the work began earlier this week was special consideration from the construction crews.

KE Seifert Inc., the contractor working with the Lower Bucks County Joint Municipal Authority on Crabtree Drive in Levittown, went above and beyond to ensure Ryan’s safe passage, Chrostowski said.

The crews made sure the boy’s wheelchair could seamlessly get over the steel plate covering the gravel and hole outside his home.

“They are replacing water pipes and they deserve to be shown more. Many company’s wouldn’t do this,” Chrostowski said.

Chrostowski acknowledged the inconvenience of daily water shut-offs for 7 to 10 days has led to some frustration in the community, but pointed to the positive actions of the workers.

“There is so much darkness in our community and sometimes it’s great to show the community how great these workers can be,” she added.

Ryan, who has spina bifida and is paralyzed from the knees down, has been helped by the crews since Wednesday.

Chrostowski said the extra effort by the construction crews ensured his safe boarding and disembarking from the school bus.

Chrostowski noted that Ryan “loves it so much” when he sees the crews working and enjoys wheeling down his driveway to talk to them.

“They both have been amazing,” she said.

“It means the world to our team to be recognized for more than just the work—we’re here for the people we serve,” KE Seifert Inc. posted on Facebook.

The Langhorne Borough-based contractor also thanked the Lower Bucks County Joint Municipal Authority, who is carrying the water line work.

“We’re all in this together, and making sure Ryan gets on and off the bus safely is the least we could do,” KE Seifert Inc. said.

Work in the neighborhood is ongoing and the contractor thanked the residents for their “patience and understanding while we work to keep things running strong.”
