Pennsbury Prom Goes Mythological As Plain White T's Slated To Play

Pennsbury High School’s nationally renowned prom returns this Saturday, May 31. Students, parents, and staff are busy transforming the high school’s East Campus in Falls Township into a captivating mythological realm for the Class of 2025 and guests.

Pop-rock band Plain White T’s, which known for their 2006 hit “Hey There Delilah,” will headline the prom.

This year’s theme, “Mythology,” will offer an immersive experience with elaborate decorations meticulously crafted by students, parents, and community members.

A public sneak peek will be available, with a walk-through of the decorated school from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Later in the day, the traditional prom arrival parade and red carpet walk will start at 5 p.m. from Pennsbury High School West and end at the red carpet at Pennsbury High School East, where the prom is held.

The weather forecast for Saturday includes a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, but a chance of rain hasn’t previously put a damper on what is dubbed the “Best Prom in America.”

Promgoers will embark on a global journey through mythology as they navigate the school, as the Red Carpet will be transformed into a Grecian-style walkway, and the lobby will showcase Native American mythology through 3D teepees and illustrations. Japanese mythology, featuring cherry blossoms, a Shinto shrine, and the fox goddess Kitsune, will adorn the cafeteria, with some elements serving as original inspirations for Pokémon.

Here is how the district describes the rest of the prom location:

From the cafeteria, you will be swept into the ocean on a 3D Viking ship, entering the Norse and Celtic-inspired Hallway and Bathrooms sections. Catch the first glimpse of the Kraken in these halls, and travel through the Nine Realms of Norse Mythology, where you will encounter some familiar favorites such as Odin & Thor!

Traveling past the colorful Rainbow Bridge, you will step into the bottom of the ocean where Poseidon is swirling his three-pronged trident to release the Kraken, which is attacking an unsuspecting passing ship. Continuing the journey under the sea, you will flow into more underwater scenery of mythical monsters and Poseidon’s castle before entering the night sky, lit up with stories of the Greek Gods written in the stars in the auditorium lobby.

A visit to the girls bathroom will transport you to India with artwork focused on the Goddess Lakshmi, who represents beauty, wealth, and fertility, with 3D elements including a giant lotus flower and elephants. While in the boys bathroom, you will be confronted with intimidating ancient Chinese warriors and symbols of war. This year’s prom chair mural contains imagery from Egyptian myths, with each 2025 Prom Chair’s name listed in Hieroglyphics.

Visit the interior hallways, the Museum Hall of the Goddesses, and an enchanted forest before stopping in the wrestling room for some interactive games or relaxing in Narcissus’s Reflective Garden. Travel back to ancient Athens in the gymnasium lobby, where you can visit the ruins and take a photo on a 3D chariot driven by a giant Pegasus. The wings of Pegasus are made of individual feathers designed by PHS students in response to the prompt “What lifts you up?” as part of the second annual Prom community project.

As you enter the gymnasium, you will be confronted with a giant Phoenix rising from behind PHS East and an oversized mechanical Medusa head. Try to avoid her dangerous gaze! The murals in the gym follow the symbol of serpents throughout ancient mythology, culminating in a giant flying dragon.

Pennsbury’s prom has a history of attracting famous performers, with past acts including John Mayer, Natasha Bedingfield, The Sugar Hill Gang, DJ Pauly D, and Questlove.

The prom holds a Guinness World Record, which was set in 2019, for the most lipstick kiss prints on a mural – 41,692 kisses spelling out “Rock Music” for the “Prom to the Music” theme.

The months of planning and decorating for this highly anticipated event are a collaborative effort by students, parents, and teachers. Community members and alumni also contribute to the annual prom.

This year’s Pennsbury Senior Prom advisors are Maggie Weber, Dan Mahoney, Amanda Durham, and Lindsay Gebeau. MaryAnn Daley serves as the entertainment coordinator. Reggie Meadows is the Pennsbury High School Campus Principal, with Assistant Principal Laura Tittle and Pete Carfagno overseeing the prom.
