FBI, Bucks County Law Enforcement Bust Croydon Megan’s Law Offender

A Bristol Township man with a decades-long history of sex crimes involving children has been arrested and jailed following a multi-agency investigation.

Gary Durfee, 71, of the township’s Croydon section, was preliminarily arraigned late last month on three counts of child sexual abuse material by District Judge Mick Petrucci. The judge set bail at 10 percent of $500,000, which Durfee posted last week.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, the FBI’s Fort Washington Resident Agency became aware of online conversations between Durfee and a known child sexual exploitation subject in Tennessee last spring. Durfee allegedly received child sexual abuse material on his WhatsApp account from the man.

Investigators linked Durfee to the WhatsApp account through a phone number associated with his residence on Sycamore Avenue in Croydon. The account displayed the name “Corey Bratton,” authorities said.

Further investigation revealed direct messages on the account containing numerous child sexual abuse images and videos of young boys, authorities said.

In June, Lower Makefield Township Police were contacted by the Chandler, Arizona, Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, which was investigating a separate individual. That investigation revealed communication between that individual and Durfee through the Croydon man’s Facebook account, also under the name “Corey Bratton,” authorities said.

A search warrant served on Facebook yielded records containing child sexual abuse images, including a chat thread where the “Corey Bratton” account was an active participant in early December of last year. In that thread, several images depicting the sexual abuse of boys were distributed, according to court documents.

A search warrant executed by the FBI, local police officers, and Lower Makefield Township and Bucks County District Attorney’s Officers at Durfee’s Croydon home on Sycamore Avenue on March 14 resulted in the seizure of multiple electronic devices, including a laptop.

Authorities said they found hundreds of images of naked prepubescent boys on a digital drive connected to the laptop.

During an interview during the search warrant execution, Durfee confirmed the seized items belonged to him, investigators said.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, which maintains the state’s Megan’s Law records, Durfee was convicted on indecent assault, indecent asault, sexual abuse of children – photography or film, and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse in 1992 and sexual abuse of children – photography or film in 2001.

Per court records, the past cases took place in Philadelphia and Durfee served time behind bars.
