Falls Township police said the man was taken into custody shortly before midnight at the Pennsbury Woods Apartments along New Falls Road.

Police Lt. Chris Clark said the man exited the apartment after negotiations.

The shelter-in-place order was lifted shortly before midnight.

Leading up to the man surrendering, police ordered the man to contact negotiators using a loud speaker.

Tactical teams remained on the scene at the Pennsbury Woods Apartments off New Falls Road as of 9:50 p.m.

“We have a subject who is believed to have fired a handgun from within an apartment,” Falls Township police Lt. Chris Clark said.

No injuries were reported as of 9:30 p.m.

“We are attempting to negotiate his exiting the apartment,” Clark said.

Falls Township police and tactical officers from several nearby municipalities responded to a standoff at the Pennsbury Woods Apartments Sunday night.

Officers began surrounding the complex on New Falls Road around 8 p.m.

By 9 p.m., a tactical team had been activated and the police presence in the area had grown.

Police officials were not immediately available for comment.

Sources familiar with the situation said officers were called to the complex for a report of a gunshot and a person possibly barricaded in an apartment.

Residents in the complex and in nearby neighborhoods received a text message urging them to “lock all doors and move to a central and secure location away from windows.”

A resident of the complex, speaking to LevittownNow.com, reported seeing officers with rifles and an ambulance at the scene. The resident said the situation remained tense as of 8:50 p.m.

Heavy police activity was reported along New Falls Road by the complex and at the nearby district courthouse parking lot.
