The Super Bowl rivalry between Pennsylvania and Missouri has extended to the governor’s offices, with Gov. Josh Shapiro and Gov. Mike Kehoe placing a friendly wager on the big game.

In a video posted on X, formerly Twitter, on Friday, Kehoe challenged Shapiro to a bet, reminding him of Missouriโ€™s victory in a similar wager last year.

Kehoe proposed that if the Kansas City Chiefs win, Shapiro will send him cheesesteaks. If the Philadelphia Eagles prevail, Kehoe will send Missouri-grown beef, Kansas City barbecue sauce, and Cherry Mash candy.

Kehoe predicted a 31-17 Chiefs victory.

Shapiro responded with his own video and asserted that the Eagles would win.

โ€œThese steaks and these pretzels arenโ€™t going anywhere,โ€ Shapiro said, gesturing to a cheesesteak and soft pretzel in his office. “Cause the Birds are gonna win.โ€

โ€œSometimes you have to congratulate folks and sometimes you have to console folks,โ€ Shapiro said, adding, โ€œyouโ€™re gonna have to console the good people of Missouri after the Birds whip the Chiefs in this Super Bowl.โ€

Shapiro captioned his video, โ€œGood luck consoling the state of Missouri.โ€

Shapiro announced that his office chose Steve’s Prince of Steaks in Northeast Philadelphia, which also has a location in Middletown Township, noting the business has experienced a drop in sales since a recent plane crash.

Not content with just one bet, Shapiro said he was ready to โ€œdouble downโ€ and make the same wager with Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly.

Shapiro is so confident in an Eagles victory that he plans to keep the green lights illuminating the Pennsylvania Capitol building on until Monday.

Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker has also joined the friendly competition and set a separate wager with Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas. The terms of that bet mirror the governors’ wager: barbecue for the winning city and cheesesteaks for the loser, according to KYW Newsradio.
