

A dog was rescued from a burning home Friday afternoon.

At 3:10 p.m., firefighters were called to a home in the 80 block of Firtree Road in the Levittown section of Middletown Township for a reported dwelling fire.

Crews arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke pushing out from the house and flames starting to vent from the second floor, William Penn Fire Company Deputy Chief Bill Smith said.

Firefighters got to work and began an aggressive attack of the flames, Smith said.

The fire was largely contained to the second floor of the William Levitt-built home, Smith said.
There were no injuries reported.

William Penn Fire Company Chief Dan Diegel pulled the family’s dog out as the flames were raging.
Firefighters brought a hermit crab habitat out of the home, but it was unclear if any hermits carbs were hurt or killed.

The Middletown Township Fire Marshal’s Office was investigating the cause of the blaze.

Firefighters fought the blaze as rain fell on the neighborhood.
In addition to the William Penn Fire Company, the Bensalem Township Volunteer Fire Department, Fairless Hills Fire Company, Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company, Levittown Fire Company No. 2, Newportville Fire Company, Middletown Township Department of Fire and Emergency Services, and Penndel Fire Company responded. The Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad was also at the scene, along with fire police.
