A Bristol Township woman pleaded guilty Thursday to making a false police report that led to the wrongful incarceration of a Yardley man on charges of attempted rape and kidnapping.

Anjela Borisova Urumova, 20, admitted in Bucks County Court of Common Pleas to seven misdemeanor charges, including false alarms to public safety, tampering with physical evidence, making false reports, and unsworn falsification to authorities.

Court of Common Pleas Judge Stephen Corr deferred sentencing until the end of March, pending a pre-sentence investigation.

Urumova disclosed to the court that she suffers from a mental illness for which she is medicated.

On April 16, 2024, Urumova reported being attacked in the parking lot of Redner’s supermarket in the Langhorne Square Shopping Center in Middletown Township, leading to the arrest of Daniel Pierson. Pierson was held for 31 days on multiple felony charges until investigators uncovered inconsistencies in Urumova’s story.

Middletown Township police and the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office reviewed surveillance footage and Urumova’s cellphone data. They found no evidence of the alleged attack, authorities said.

After being confronted with the findings, Urumova confessed to fabricating the incident.

The young woman, according to court papers, said that Pierson was “creepy” and she had seen his truck before in the shopping center when she worked there.

Ethan Paraboschi, Urumova’s attorney, stated that his client is committed to correcting her wrongs, but he refrained from discussing her motivations until sentencing.

“She’s trying to do the right thing,” he told reporters, adding she is working to “move forward and make this right with the best intentions and wishes.”

Chief Deputy District Attorney Kristin McElroy said she was uncertain over Urumova’s motivations and confirmed that her office is exploring if the victim and prosecutors can seek restitution.

The false accusation not only led to Pierson’s wrongful detention but also captured widespread media attention.

Urumova has been free on bail since shortly after her arrest.
