

A dramatic rescue unfolded on Monday morning when crews successfully removed a man from atop a New Jersey Transit train in Falls Township.

At about 10:30 a.m., officers from the Falls Township Police Department were called to assist the New Jersey Transit Police Department at the rail yard on M-Y Lane for a man in crisis atop a train, police said.

To ensure the safety of the man and rescue crews, Sgt. Ray Fanelli coordinated resources, including Capitol Health Emergency Medical Services, Falls Township Fire Company, Morrisville Fire Company and Penndel Fire Company, New Jersey Transit officials worked to de-energize the impacted rail lines before getting the man off the train, police said.
Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) trained officers Brian Fisher and Francisco Olmeda engaged the injured man, who had sustained a compound-fracture to his leg and a head contusion, police said.

The officers provided blankets, hand warmers, and a tourniquet during the rescue effort, which lasted over an hour and a half, police said.
The man was rescued, and he was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment, police said.

The injured man was a 32-year-old Willingboro, New Jersey resident, who police believe jumped from an elevated track in Trenton onto a train bound for Pennsylvania.

The incident came to light when a conductor on an opposing train noticed the man and alerted authorities, leading to the halting of the train in Pennsylvania, police said.
The incident caused a three-hour disruption of train services, police said.
