Loftus Construction Inc. has secured the $12,112,112 contract to carry out the project to reconstruct the bridge that connects Lower Southampton and Middletown townships, according to officials.
Construction is slated to begin this winter and is expected to conclude by fall 2027.
Constructed in 1956, the existing four-span bridge will be replaced with a more modern three-span structure.

The new bridge will be slightly wider and longer and is expanding by nearly 10 feet in width and 24 feet in length to accommodate the nearly 7,000 vehicles that cross daily, officials said.
The design enhancements include reconstructed approach roadways that will raise the bridge to provide a more substantial waterway opening, intended to prevent future flooding. The changes will also improve the sightlines for drivers approaching the bridge, enhancing overall road safety, according to PennDOT.

The project also encompasses several other improvements, including shoulder widening and the installation of advanced stormwater management systems.
Middletown Township officials said PennDOT will implement a staged construction strategy to let traffic to continue in a one-lane alternating flow. Traffic will be controlled by temporary signals.
The Brownsville Road Bridge is currently listed in fair condition, according to PennDOT data.
