Bristol Township Council has given the green light to sell the Atkins pump station and service area to the Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority for $307,410.

The council made the vote during their meeting earlier this month and said the sale is to partly recover recent investments in the wastewater system’s infrastructure. The township-owned system covers only a portion of the municipality.

“We’re looking to simplify things and make life easier for our residents. This is just the first step in dividing up all the areas,” Township Manager Randee Mazur explained.

The township presently has 60 miles of sewers and a wastewater plant in the Croydon section. The Lower Bucks County Joint Municipal Authority also provides wastewater services for a portion of the township, and the Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority provides wholesale sewer services.

Mazur added: “Currently, if someone needs to do repairs, they’d need permits from two different operations. We’re trying to cut down on that red tape for our residents.”

The sale price takes into account the recent upgrades made by the township.

“We’re getting back $307,410 for all the work we’ve done at that service station over the past five years,” Mazur told the council.

The deal also factors in the new Equivalent Dwelling Units (EDUs) from the Lighthouse at Norton development, a 62-unit apartment complex that’s currently being built in the area.

The transaction is expected to wrap up in the coming weeks, with the Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority taking the reins soon after.
