Fire Started After Car Hits Pole

A vehicle crash into a utility pole and caused a fire late Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened in the area on Reetz Avenue near Lincoln Avenue in Hulmeville Borough, officials said.

Authorities reported that the crash resulted in wires down and an active fire.

Due to the incident, additional fire crews were added onto the call, according to officials.

PECO responded and the power line was secured, officials said.

When it was safe, firefighters put out the vehicle blaze, officials said.

No life-threatening injuries were reported.

The fire led to a towering black smoke column visible from several parts of the surrounding area.

The William Penn Fire Company, Middletown Township Department of Fire and Emergency Services, Newport Fire Company, and Penndel Fire Company responded, along with borough police.
