The Middletown Township high school recorded the highest increase in seatbelt usage among students.
The announcement was made by TMA Bucks, the nonprofit transportation management association that organizes the challenge.
This year, student drivers at Neshaminy High School improved their seatbelt usage from 90 percent in the fall to an impressive 94 percent in the spring, leading the pack among the 21 participating schools.

The high school’s previous top performance was in the 2010-2011 school year.
The school’s Interact Club, which is led by teacher Suzi Drake, spearheaded the campaign.

The campaign earned the club a cash grant and a perpetual plaque for their efforts.
“I am so proud of the work our students have done around the goal of encouraging their classmates to make good choices in regard to driving safely,” said Drake. “We would like to thank TMA Bucks for organizing the Bucks County High School Seatbelt Safety Challenge and wish everyone a safe and happy summer.”
Stephen Noll, executive director of TMA Bucks, praised the students’ efforts.

The challenge began in fall 2023 with baseline surveys conducted unannounced at various high schools across the county to capture accurate seatbelt usage data. Follow-up surveys in April and May determined the winners, according to TMA Bucks.

Erica Rosso, of NJM Insurance Group, pointed to the importance of seatbelt safety.
โAccording to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, using a seatbelt can help reduce the risk of fatal injury for drivers and front-seat passengers by 60% which is why contests such as these are crucial in spreading awareness,” she said.
