Tommy Tomlinson has fond memories of youthful days water skiing with friends on the Delaware River and sleeping under the stars on Burlington Island at night.

Those experiences provide the perfect segue to a new commitment, his recent appointment to the board of trustees of the Friends of Burlington Island (FOBI}.

Tomlinson, a retired Republican state senator, fills a vacancy created by the resignation of board member Don McCloskey.

The island sits directly between Burlington City and Bristol Borough.

Tomlinson will bring his knowledge of government operations, fundraising, and public affairs to the table.

Coincidentally, both he and New Jersey State Rep. Diane Allen shared memories of separate times that made the island special to each of them.

Tomlinson recalled visiting the island several times over the years.

Early in her career, Allen remembers boating from Burlington to broadcast from a radio station located on the island.

Both share opposition to a proposal to dump river bottom sludge from various sites onto a part of the island.
