UPDATE: Driver In Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash Fled, Stole Dump Truck, Cops Say

A two-vehicle wreck resulted in two deaths and two people being treated for injuries on Saturday afternoon, with authorities revealing one of the drivers in the crash then stole a dump truck, according to the Bristol Township Police Department.

Police said the crash happened at 1:32 p.m. and involved a black Ford Explorer and a 2019 red Nissan Sentra at the intersection of Ford Road and Veterans Highway (Route 413).

The Ford Explorer was driven by a man and was heading eastbound on Ford Road when it collided with the Nissan Sentra as it was turning left onto southbound Veterans Highway from westbound Ford Road.

The violent impact led to the death of two passengers in the Nissan at the scene, police said.

The driver and another passenger of the Nissan were transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in Philadelphia. They received treatment for minor injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

The driver of the Ford Explorer, who was not named by police, fled the scene on foot.

The driver then stole a dump truck, leading to another crash a short distance away on Veterans Highway near Old Rodgers and Wharton roads, police said.

The stolen truck overturned while the driver attempted to navigate a turn, prompting him to flee the scene once again on foot. Bristol Township officers quickly apprehended him near the scene of the second crash, police said.

The two crash sites closed Veterans Highway for several hours and fire police redirected traffic.

Police were assisted at the scene by the Newportville Fire Company, Bucks County Rescue Squad, Levittown-Fairless Hills Rescue Squad, and Bensalem Township Emergency Medical Services.
