Levittown Area Hit By Flooding; Roads Closed

The Levittown area experienced scattered flooding on Monday morning with several local waterways, including the Neshaminy Creek, overflowing their banks in the early pre-dawn hours.

The Neshaminy Creek reached high levels at the bridges along Bridgetown Pike and Maple Avenue in Middletown Township, causing flooding near the Bridgetown Mill House.

Authorities closed Langhorne-Newtown Road (Route 413) in Middletown Township between Bridgetown Pike and East Winchester Avenue due to the creek’s flooding.

Additional flooding was reported in the area Trenton Road and Woobourne Road in Middletown Township. Middletown Township police said the road had reopened by 9 a.m.

Local residents noted that Green Lane near the railroad underpass in Bristol Borough was dealing with flood waters.

At Playwicki Park in Middletown Township, the Neshaminy Creek’s water level nearly reached 13 feet, entering the flood stage, according to U.S. Geological Survey data.

The Delaware River in Bristol Borough was observed to be swollen, yet remained below major flood stage.

“DO NOT drive through flooded roadways or go around barricades where roads are closed,” the National Weather Service warned drivers.

The area also dealt with some fallen limbs and trees along roadways.

Power outages were minimal, with only a few customers in the Levittown area affected, according to reports from PECO.

Middletown Township police said they brought in additional officers to assist with road and flooding issues throughout the day.

The National Weather Service reported that between 2 to 5 inches of rain had fallen in the region, prompting the issuance of a Flood Warning.

The forecast said that the rain would taper off later in the morning.
