Don Harris, the fire marshal, stepped in as a consultant in late August 2021 following the resignation of former Fire Marshal Jim McGuire and was hired in January 2022 as the full-time fire marshal.
The Middletown Township Board of Supervisors recognized Harris for his work at their meeting on Monday evening.
During his time in Middletown Township, Harris was instrumental in implementing new software for inspections and introducing new equipment to enhance the fire service’s capabilities. He also streamlined the permitting process and played a role in expanding fire prevention programs, according to township officials.

Harris’s job extended to managing the paid firefighters until February 2023 when Mark Antozzeski was appointed as the full-time chief.
Harris’ work was crucial during a period described as a “time of crisis” by Township Manager Stephanie Teoli Kuhls.

“He was a trusted public servant and exactly what we needed at that time,” Teoli Kuhls said, praising Harris’s dedication and impact.
Initially agreeing to a one-year term, Harris, a longtime Lower Bucks County firefighter and fire investigator, extended his commitment to assist in the overhaul of the fire service and to collaborate with the new fire chief.
Harris’ work significantly improved the relationship between the volunteer fire companies and the township, Teoli Kuhls noted.
