A local high school could be moving away from its current schedule and moving toward block scheduling.

According to the Neshaminy School District newsletter, Neshaminy High School may soon change how it operated and has held a meeting.
In mid-September, a group of high school administrators, teachers, and district administrators convened at Maple Point Middle School to discuss the topic.
The meeting was the first in a series of discussions slated over the upcoming months to contemplate introducing block scheduling to the school.

“A block schedule is a method that would replace the current daily schedule of 8 periods of approximately 45 minutes each with longer class periods that meet fewer times each day and week,” the district said.
The specifics of how block scheduling might be executed are still under review.

The district said that Dr. Michael Rettig, an educational consultant and founder of School Scheduling Associates LLC, shared insights into various block scheduling frameworks during the September meeting.
The next discussion is set for November.
“Should they decide to proceed with a block scheduling proposal, it would be presented to the School Board for their consideration later this school year. If the Board decides to move forward with block scheduling at that time, it would not be implemented until the 2025-2026 school at the earliest,” the district said.
