A Bristol Borough woman is facing charges after she allegedly stole more than $5,700 from an elderly man in a New Britain Township senior care facility via forged and fraudulent checks.

New Britain Township police were alerted to the alleged thefts in October 2022 when the victim’s son-in-law contacted investigators regarding fraudulent checks that had been drawn on the victim’s account. Police said all checks had been altered in some way — be it the date, the amount of the check, or a forged signature — and all checks were made out to Christina Cooper, 53, of Bristol Borough, according to the criminal complaint.
The son-in-law told police that Cooper was the girlfriend of a family member, adding she had previously helped the victim in the past and would have had access to his checks, police said.
Search warrants served on TD Bank and Santander Bank showed five of the victim’s checks had either been cashed or deposited by Cooper, totaling $5,735, according to charging documents.

As a result of the investigation, Cooper has been charged with felony counts of forgery, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and criminal use of a communication facility. She’s currently free on $15,000 unsecured bail.
Court records show Cooper has a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 11 at 1:30 p.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Regina Armitage.
