The incident unfolded at a home in the 1200 block of South Pennsylvania Avenue at the intersection with Jessie Avenue in the borough. The incident occurred a few hundred feet away from the border with Falls Township.

Police said officers were dispatched to meet with a caller, a relative of the home renter, who had found what she believed to be two pipe bombs in the basement. The complainant suspected that the items belonged to a male resident who is currently serving time in Philadelphia for a robbery committed last year.

At the scene, officers confirmed the presence of what appeared to be two PVC pipe bombs within the home, police said.

As a precautionary measure, the Philadelphia Police Department’s bomb squad was called to the scene and removed the devices, police said in a statement.

There were no reported injuries, and authorities have assured the community that there is no imminent danger.

The search warrant was executed Thursday morning and into the afternoon, police said.

County detectives were spotted in the afternoon taking out safes and a basket with wires.

The alleged pipe bombs will undergo examination by the city police department’s bomb squad, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and the FBI, police said.

Sources said a woman lived at the home, but she was not there at the time.
