The crash occurred shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday on Maple Avenue/Old East Lincoln Highway (Route 213) and the overpass connecting the Reedman-Toll Auto Group dealership.

Police Lt. John Michniewicz said the driver of the truck was hospitalized with injuries to his face, but he is expected to recover.

PennDOT officials inspected the privately-owned overpass and determined it was safe to travel under. However, it was recommended the overpass be closed and inspected by a private company to determine if vehicles can travel on it.

The dump truck bed was raised for an unknown reason as the truck traveled westbound on the roadway. It impacted the overpass with enough force the bed of the truck was torn off and lodged between the support beam and the roadway.

The dump truck traveled several hundred yards forward before stopping.

A utility pole was torn down and wires had to be removed from the roadway.

The overpass is expected to be demolished in the future as a warehouse construction project has been approved for a portion of the surrounding land.
