The bed of a dump truck slammed into an overpass in Middletown Township Wednesday morning.

The incident happened just before 10 a.m. on Maple Avenue/Old East Lincoln Highway (Route 213) and the overpass connecting the Reedman-Toll Auto Group sites.
The front of the dump truck stopped about 300 feet ahead of where the rear of the truck became lodged.

The rear of the truck, which appeared to have been in the up position as it came toward the overpass, ripped down a utility pole and left utility lines scattered across the roadway.

It didn’t appear that any other vehicles were damaged.
The overpass bridge appeared to have sustained damage.

A Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad ambulance was stopped by the front of the truck, but it was unclear if injuries were reported.
Maple Avenue/Old East Lincoln Highway was closed as of 11:30 a.m. in the area of the crash.
PECO and Rob’s Automotive had trucks on the scene.

The crash led to a group of onlookers gathering at the Reedman-Toll Auto Group property.
The overpass is expected to be demolished in the future as a warehouse construction project has been approved for a portion of the surrounding land.
