Downed Trees, Power Outages Reported Following Storms

Strong storms with rain, hail, and winds brought damage to the Levittown area Saturday evening.

Around 7 p.m., the line of storms moved through the area.

A Tornado Warning was issued for the area and circular rotation was reported in the clouds in Lower Bucks County, but there were no reports a tornado touched down. However, strong winds were reported.

Minutes after the storm, about 5,600 PECO customers in the Levittown area did not have power.

As of 8:45 p.m., about 5,000 customers remained in the dark.

Multiple trees were downed along Falls-Tullytown Road, Tyburn Road, Pennsylvania Avenue, Newbold Road, and other roadways, according Falls Township Fire Marshal Rich Dippolito.

“I’m hearing we got hit pretty hard, ” Dippolito said between coordinating the emergency response.

PennDOT and the Falls Township Public Works Department were called out to remove limbs and trees from the roadways.

LevittownNow.com readers reported seeing downed branches and debris throughout the Fallsington section of Falls Township and along Stony Hill Road near the border with Falls and Lower Makefield townships.

Bristol Township Fire Marshal Kevin Dippolito, who is also the municipality’s emergency management coordinator, said a tree fell on a home on Blue Ridge Drive in Levittown and one fell onto a structure and pole in Croydon. There were several reports of downed limbs and trees in other locations.

Readers in Langhorne and Falls Township said the storm “sounded like a freight train” as it moved through.

As of publication, no injuries were reported in the area.

Nearby, a part of the Village of Newtown shopping center in the area of Harvest Seasonal Grill collapsed onto parked cars.
