The renamed span was previously known as County Bridge 15, which was rehabilitated by the county in 2017.

The renaming drew a crowd for the Saturday morning ceremony attended by local elected officials and those who knew Ortals, who grew up down the street from the bridge.

โ€œIt is our solemn duty to keep the memories of heroes like Cpl. Ortals alive in any way we can,โ€ said Commissioner Chairperson Bob Harvie. โ€œWhile this may be just a small gesture when compared to what theyโ€™ve sacrificed, we as a County are proud to remember and honor those who gave everything in service to their community and country.โ€ย
