The Frost Hollow Road Bridge over Mill Creek in Middletown’s Levittown section reopened Friday afternoon.
County Commissioner Diane Ellis-Marseglia and Middletown officials gathered to cut the ribbon on the rehabilitated bridge that has been closed since March.

“Levittown was designed as a community where everything was connected and folks could move easily and safely throughout,” Ellis-Marseglia said. “The reopening of this bridge reconnects the communities with safety.”
Officials heralded the fact the project was finished weeks ahead of schedule.
The rehabilitation of the 42-foot-long bridge involved superstructure replacement, modifications to the abutment seats, repair of substructure elements, stream channel cleaning, approach roadway paving, approach guiderail upgrades, and bridge barrier and signage. The new bridge superstructure consists of composite, pre-stressed concrete adjacent box beams and a reinforced concrete deck and sidewalk.

The $635,000 rehabilitation upgraded the original bridge that was constructed in 1957.
In a statement, the county said the project was paid for out of a bond fund. About 80 percent of the project cost will be retro-reimbursement through a PennDOT program.
